The Worrier (pose) or Fighter, spends tremendous energy merely to be normal. Skin has a life of its own: a history, a personality, intolerances and mood swings. Yours is like a roller coaster, rarely stable and sometimes spins out of control. You worry about how to keep your skin on track and what to do when it flies off the handle. You have a bathroom cabinet that many would envy. If only they knew! And here’s the killer: the brain and skin are on speed-dial to each other which means your worrying can fuel your skin’s state of flux.
The next time your skin presents the latest wrongdoing don’t be tempted to go for a different brand, formula or a new innovation. Instead, go back to basics. Pare back your routine to a good cleanser that furnishes skin with strengthening oils, plus a nourishing day/night cream. Anything that keeps skin supple and hydrated and strong means it can return to function how nature intended. So often, one skincare fix begets another problem. Once skin has had a breather, you can work out what’s happening. You need to eliminate the self-made causes of imbalance and get to the bottom of what your triggers are. The usual culprits are overzealous skincare or overactive hormones, including those familiar stress hormones. Don’t expect things to change overnight. Like your body, you skin needs a balanced set of daily nutrition. There’s a real win-win with keeping things simple. Also what you do to prevent problems before they start is better than fixing. Diet exercise, sleep, lifestyle changes all have a huge impact on the way your skin looks and behaves. You many find it easier to choose a new multi-tasking formula to cut out a step or two of your regime.

Inflammation can be triggered both internally (through diet, stress, disease, rosacea) and externally (from pollution, sun exposure, environment and over-treating and over-washing and exfoliating), contributing to redness, reactivity, hyperpigmentation, and breakouts.
